How do I perform a screenings without AC power?

Last Updated: May 03, 2012 11:29AM PDT

screening, no power, no AC outlet What is needed to do a screening with just battery power? Although it is always best to have AC power at a screening, there are times you simply can’t rely upon it. How do you then do a screening “off the grid”? A Portable Battery Powered Inverter! We’re in luck! Almost all electronic devices from MyoVision’s 3G SoloVision (which is USB powered) to an LCD display, require less power than ever. This means you can run an entire screening from powering your laptop, to powering an LCD/LED display with a single portable battery. My personal favorite is one which has everything built in, so you need not carry separate components (an inverter, a battery and a battery charger). All of these are built into this clever device, the Xantrex XPower Powerpack 600HD Portable Power Source, which you can find at online for $169.00 (that is the price at Amazon.com). Here is the list of products which I would recommend:

Xantrex Xpower Powerpack 600HD Portable Power Source. It has 3 AC outlets which allow you to power the computer, a printer and LCD Monitor. If you purchase the SoloVision device for your ScanVision, you won’t need ANY power for your MyoVision.

ScanVision: The MyoVision Static sEMG because potential patients can “feel” muscle activity, the sEMG is much more powerful than the ThermoVision device for screenings. In addition, as the summer comes, the ThermoVision device is affected temperature, something which the sEMG is immune to.

SoloVision: If you purchased the ScanVision on its own. GREAT! Grab your System and GO! If you purchased your ScanVision with additional components, a great little “add-on” to your MyoVision system is the SoloVision. It is a USB Powered Device (which means one less power cord to bring), and you simply bind the ScanVision to the SoloVision for the screening (instructions). Make sure to print out instructions for binding the device in your packet that you take.

LCD display: You need to get a display which is large enough to get attention, while not burning up too much battery life. Worst case scenario, you do the screening with your laptop of course, if battery life is an issue. Purchase the lowest power LCD display you can. CHECK BACK SOON! I’ll be testing them out next week!

  • A device to place the LCD monitor monitor.
  • Extra AAA Batteries for your ScanVision(TM). It is worth it to purchase the Energizer Lithium Ultimate batteries for a screening as they last twice as long as Alkalines, and technically are cheaper.
  • SPEAKERS! The MyoVision talks! Use the voice so it attracts attention. Get great ones.

Power strip: Bring one with at least an 8 foot or 12 foot cord, so it is able to reach at a distance. When using this with the Xantrex Power 600HD, you’ll leave 2 extra AC wall outlets available for anything else extraneous needed.

Purchase the MyoVision Quickscan Container on the myovision webstore. Using this clever device prevents the Quickscan Pads from leaking as it is double sealed. The top is flat, making touching the electrodes to the Quickscan Pads simple Screening

Tips:
  1. Always ask the opened ended question: “When was the last time you had your spine checked?” NEVER say “Do you want your spine checked?" See the difference? With the first question, you “engage” them in conversation with them saying: “What do you mean by spine checked?”With the second question, they can simply say “NO”. Go with the effective one:
  2. If possible when doing these at an office location, try to use a signup sheet to “schedule” a screening with each potential patient. By doing so, you raise the value of the time you spend together as they get 15 minutes with the doctor. When doing an unscheduled out-of-office screening , your time is not valued as much.
  3. Always have two people from your office at a screening (yourself and a CA...2 total).
  4. If not busy, make sure to test each other with the MyoVision to draw attention to your booth.
